About
About Barbara Brown
Barbara Brown considers herself a compassionate woman who has faced many challenges throughout her childhood and adult life. Many people thought she would not do anything with her life because she did not have parents. She felt she had to prove them wrong — the more obstacles she encountered, the more she refused to give up. Find out more about Barbara Brown before she became the prolific Christian author and proud founder of the Stop the Bullying Scholarship Foundation in Memory of Stanley Brown.
Early Challenges and Personal Loss
Barbara was placed in foster care as a young 3-year-old and left the system when she became 13 years old, which led to a period of homelessness. She dropped out of high school during the second month of ninth grade and had three sons before the age of 18. She put one son up for adoption and later lost another son to bullying.
Choosing Faith, Education, and a Better Future
At a young age, Barbara knew she had not been given the same opportunities as others. Because of that, she decided to do everything in her power to build a better life for herself and her children. There were times when she did not think she would make it, but she continued to pray, forgive others for what they did to her, and move forward.
Her determination led her back to school, where she earned her GED. She continued her education and earned a bachelor’s degree from NYU. After working with foster children for a period of time, Barbara returned to school and earned her master’s degree from Lehman College in the Bronx.
Teaching, Counseling, and Ministry
Barbara became a teacher and taught for 16 years before continuing her education once again. She earned two additional master’s degrees related to school counseling from Brooklyn College. Upon graduating, she started a mentoring program that received two community awards. In addition to her teaching and counseling background, Barbara also has a five-year ministry degree. Her education, professional experience, and faith continue to guide her work as an author, mentor, and advocate.
Barbara's goal is to work with children and families part-time when she retires. She plans to develop programs that support animals and help mistreated pets. Barbara also wants to support service animals by providing them with proper vet care.
Family Reunion and Gratitude
In 2010, Barbara was reunited with members of her biological family. Altogether, God allowed her to find 11 family members, and she is grateful for the opportunity to enjoy time with them. Upon her retirement, she plans to spend much of her time catching up with her family.
Barbara also plans to write a second book about the reunion of her family, sharing another meaningful chapter of her personal journey.
A Creative Soul with a Purpose
Barbara enjoys the creative process and the opportunity to share with others through writing. She is a constant writer, keeping notebooks throughout her home. Writing enables her to have a voice on many topics, from what she sees on television to how parents and children interact.
Although she began writing more recently, Barbara has grown significantly in her craft. She considers writing a gift and is able to write a book in less than two weeks.
Her Artistic Inspiration
Barbara is inspired by the Spirit of God and believes He places the words inside her. It is her sincere hope that her work inspires you to make changes in your life and show more love toward those around you.
